It's a fact that Canberra doesn't have the performance industry, resources and opportunities of larger cities. That doesn't mean you can't do voiceover here, but it does mean you have to look a bit harder for support and opportunities.
Here are some local resources in the Australian Capital Territory for anyone wanting to build their skills and portfolio for various types of voiceover.
Woden Library is a hidden gem! There is a podcast suite and a recording studio available to library members - unless you're making money they can be booked for free. Contact Libraries ACT to ask about doing an induction before booking.
Training is available through community radio stations. This isn't exactly voiceover but it's a way to develop skills and familiarise yourself with the studio environment and equipment. There are volunteering opportunities sometimes.
Improv theatre is an excellent way to develop your performance skills. Impro ACT runs courses for beginners and experienced performers, aligning with school terms. Perform Australia is an acting school and sometimes runs voice programs; they also offer coaching.
